BT fibre follows Virgin DOCSIS3.0 down the road...

Ok, 2 weeks late I catch up with BT's 2.5million fibre-to-the-premises announcement - Gigabit is now for brownfield as well as greenfield sites, to compete with Virgin presumably.

I suspect they'll gradually creep up to 5-6million which will more or less match Virgin's total (assume 50% penetration by both) in, oh lets say 2012-13.

It will be fascinating to see how much throttling takes place on the backhaul for an advertised 100mbps speed...
